Loapi

THE SPACE BELOW THE CLOUDS
Inspired by escapism and adventure, Loapi is a return to a true wilderness experience that is both private and exclusive, evoking the carefree, nomadic spirit of camping. Six individual homes under canvas embrace the principles of low-impact design, reflecting a deep respect for the red Kalahari earth. The camp’s secluded setting invites deep engagement with the changeable beauty of Tswalu’s wide, open spaces and inspires awe for the immensity of the ‘space below the clouds’, its Setswana meaning.

What we love about this camp

Space and flexibility to curate a personal, private wilderness experience.

LUXURY ACCOMMODATION

SIX EXCLUSIVE-USE SAFARI HOMES
Each private, well-appointed home is a self-contained, sophisticated retreat with quietly luxurious, intimate spaces for dining, socialising, and relaxing. With no shared services or amenities, you are assured of solitude and seclusion with discreet yet dedicated staff including a private guide and tracker. All meals are prepared by a private chef in the interactive kitchen and attentive service is provided by your homathi (resident house manager).
Designed as contemporary glass and steel pavilions, the living and dining areas form the heart of each home alongside the fully equipped kitchen and generously stocked pantry and bar. Deep, shaded decks feature day beds for relaxation, dining and seating areas, an environmentally friendly plunge pool and a fire pit for sundowners and stargazing in the evening or coffee on a chilly winter’s morning. The bedrooms are cocoon-like sanctuaries under canvas, connecting guests to the sights and sounds of nature while providing exceptional comfort and insulation from the Kalahari’s extreme temperatures. Whether dining indoors or taking an outdoor shower, you always feel connected to the surrounding wilderness.

Loapi offers time and space for connection and contemplation.

With uninterrupted views south across open plains and distant hills from each of Loapi’s homes, it is possible to witness the play of colour, light and shadow across sky and land from sunrise to sunset. Sustainability was the watchword when planning every aspect of the camp.

Tucked into the contours of the Korannaberg hills, the six canvas and steel exclusive-use homes embrace the principles of low-impact design and show a deep respect for the environment. In every aspect of its design, each home exudes quiet, restrained luxury in spaces that never compete with what you’ve come to see.

Just like the semi-arid environment, there is richness in the sparseness. Natural fibres, colours and contrasting textures are layered luxuriously, including in the bedrooms where the sheets are woven from sustainably grown long-staple Indian cotton and the super-soft, pure alpaca throws are made from fibres locally grown and woven in South Africa. In the living areas, furniture is smooth, voluptuous, and curvaceous, while underfoot bare wood and pure wool rugs provide comfort throughout the year.

A RICHLY LAYERED PRIVATE WILDERNESS EXPERIENCE AND THE HEADY FREEDOM THAT COMES WITH UNSCRIPTED TIME IN NATURE.
