Experience an incomparable safari defined by the freedom and flexibility to explore the largest private game reserve in South Africa at your own pace. Tswalu’s three luxury safari camps are less about the obvious pleasures you will enjoy as our guest – bespoke linen, fine wines, and delicious food – and more about the privilege of enjoying exclusive access to 114,000 hectares (282,000 acres) of private wilderness. From exhilarating predator-prey encounters to rare sightings of some of Africa’s most elusive species, every activity you embark on will be privately guided – there are no other vehicles or safari camps on the reserve besides our own to dilute your experience.
Committed to leaving the world better than how we found it.
Tswalu is located in a remote part of South Africa on the southernmost edge of the Kalahari. Here, where the ancient Korannaberg mountains give way to vast arid savannah plains, there is greater habitat diversity than anywhere else in the region. Vast and untrammelled, the reserve is a destination in its own right, encompassing an extraordinary, semi-arid ecosystem of resilient fauna and flora. Rewarding at any time of the year, Tswalu is malaria-free.

Year-round sightings of big predators, rare and endangered species, and Africa's most elusive animals in 114,000 hectares (282,000 acres) of private wilderness.

The ultimate luxury on safari is a private 4x4 vehicle and the undivided attention of a guide and tracker - your guarantee with every booking.

Three safari camps in remote locations of the private reserve are defined by quiet luxury, personalised service, and an authentic sense of place.
At its core, Tswalu is a conservation project with a 30-year track record of protecting biodiversity and safeguarding space for wildlife to thrive. For a long-term conservation endeavour like Tswalu to remain viable takes much more than philanthropy and passion. By staying in one of our luxury safari camps, our guests become part of the Oppenheimer family’s bold vision to harness the net-positive impact of regenerative, nature-based travel to support conservation, culture, and community.
Modular in design, this light-footprint camp offers the ultimate private wilderness experience in one of six, individual safari homes under canvas with expansive views across rolling grasslands to the distant Korannaberg mountains. In Setswana, Loapi means ‘the space below the clouds’, reflecting the camp’s escapist, adventurous spirit for relishing unscripted time in nature.
Meaning ‘village’ in Setswana, the Motse is where it all began. The elegant, richly textured interiors of its nine legae (Setswana for ‘home’) are private sanctuaries designed for couples and families. Generous shared spaces, including a photo studio, gym, spa, and two swimming pools, form the sociable heart of this gracious camp.
This exclusive-use homestead is truly ‘a world apart’, as its local name implies. Offering low-key luxury under one roof – up to 10 guests in five suites – this is a space for multi-generational families or a group of close friends to reconnect and make memories. A spacious verandah, plunge pool, boma, gazebo, and fire pit overlook a waterhole.
